BBQ Etiquette

We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh our memory on the etiquette of this outdoor cooking activity.

When attending a BBQ:

First thing first, Never turn up to a BBQ empty handed! It is an Aussie custom to bring some food and/or drink when attending a summer time Barbe. A slab of beer, pack of snags or a salad, Just don't arrive with your hands hanging.

Secondly, if you are a big drinker bring an ESKY!!! I can not count the number of Barbes I've been to where we have ran out of room to keep the booze icey cold. Last thing you want is a warm beer on a hot day.

Lastly, ENJOY it, eat up & drink alot!

When hosting a BBQ:
What you will need...

CHEF- The chef is usually the man of the house, but this duty can be shared with the "mans" mates!
Meat- Snags, Steak, Chops, Hamburgers, Chicken etc
Non-meat- Onions, Bread(You can't have snags without bread), Tomato and BBQ sauce, Salads(optional).
Other- Plastic plates, plastic cutlery, Esky's
A BBQ(Just about every home in Australia has a Barbe, it's the "norm" when it comes to household furniture_
Alcohol- Beer, Beer & Beer.

A Barbe usually works in this order. Drink, Cook then Eat...

There is nothing more Aussie than the Summer/Spring time Aussie Barbe. It is very much part of our way of life and is enjoyed all over Australia and at all levels of society.

I'm off to my first BBQ tonight! It's been way to long.
