The Grey Man

About 6 weeks I was in desperate need of a new book to read, scanning the shelves of every book store in a 50km radius, I was finding it impossible to see a title that jumped out at me. After hundreds of dull, boring & uninteresting titles I seen it, "The Grey Man".

Okay I know "The Grey Man" is not an exciting title but a bell went off in my mind, I had heard of this book somehow, for the life of me I could not remember where. I snatched the book off the shelf, scanned over a few pages and was out of the shop in 5 minutes with -$25.95 in my pocket.

What is "The Grey Man"? The Grey Man is a book by Founder John Curtis, His undercover was against the child sex trade in Asia and the story of how The Grey Man organisation started. I must say what this man started is amazing  extraordinary! My jaw was literally on the floor. But more to the point is this post isn't about the book itself but the international organisation this man started, with his own money, in a strange country, leaving his whole life behind!

"The Grey Man is an international organisation dedicated to eradicating the trafficking and exploitation of children. Our main role is the rescue of children from traffickers. However, early on we realised that rescuing children was not enough. Once they enter sex work they can become socialised to their life there and it becomes difficult to convince them that they deserve something better. Many of them will be physically or psychologically damaged and face the prospect of death from AIDS. We realised that we needed to stop them from entering the sex trade in the first place. Based in Brisbane, Australia our activities are focused on the countries of South East Asia."

I have a great amount of respect and admiration for what John Curtis started. It proves one person can make a difference in the world. Now he is the founder of an amazing organization doing all they can to try and put a stop to child trafficking throughout the world.

Their operations always remains covert, they never record any of the rescues and only ever publish blanked out photos of the children. These people do not believe in exploiting the children in the media for fame and glory as hero's. Generally everything they do is "under the radar", unlike the dramatic raids of other organisations. Though their preferred mode of operation is to win by stealth rather than by force, recently they have become involved in joint operations with the police.

This organisation puts their own people in harms way by going into brothels to get kids out. Some of their people are former special-forces soldiers, some are ex-police but they also have journalists, bikers and academics. In fact, anyone can be a Grey Man. All it takes is to make a stand for something, to declare ‘If not me…then who?’ and most importantly, TAKE ACTION!

We can all make a difference, all it take is one person. I will give you some information from their website on how you can help.

In Thailand right now, young hill-tribe children are being trafficked into prostitution. We have found that the best way to protect these children is to give them an education combined with support for their families in terms of basic staples such as rice and other essentials. This assistance is conditional on the family keeping the child in education. This approach works very well to prevent trafficking.

To provide education for a child and support for the family costs around $400 per year. This is a small price to pay for the life of a child.

You can be a big part of this effort either by making a donation yourself or joining together with a group of 10 friends and contributing $40 each. This donation will put one of these children into education for a whole year. Any amount will help though so feel free to contribute what you can afford.

ALL IT TAKES IS ONE PERSON TO SAVE ONE CHILD!!

Why am I moving?

ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS

As you all may or may not know I'm moving to Mandurah, Western Australia on the 30th September. That is 43 days away, which is so very close. I've had many question to why I'm moving away, why have I decided to do it so soon & what am I going there for. You're at the right place to find these answers.

I've had alot of time on my hands these last few months, alot of time to think about where I want to be in the future. Every time I think about my future I don't picture it here in Victoria. I've always loved Mandurah and as my friends and family know, I've previously lived there for a period of about 4 months.

The reason I've decided to go so soon is I need to work. Inverloch has nothing to offer me, It's a town for old people and hippies. Plus the fact that I want to just live on my own for a little, not have to worry about picking up after anyone but my self while I do some study. ME TIME!!!

So the reasons I am leaving is Work, Study & Future. They are my reasons and I'm happy with them. To all my friends, Please don't think yous are getting rid of me that easy. I'll be back late November & over the Christmas holidays, and I'll be using this time to catch up with all of you. Lucky for us in this day and age we have facebook, so I'll be up to date on most things.

Please come visit! Mandurah is a BEAUTIFUL place and I'll always have a spare bed..

Rocky Road!!!

I {heart} Rocky-road

Fun, easy and very tasty, Rocky-road is sure to temp the taste buds of any sweets lover!
Another bonus with rocky-road is that you can switch and swap ingredients to suit your tastes.

I thought I would share one of my favorite rocky-road recipes and highly recommend you give it ago. I promise you will be talk of the party! (if you decide to share)

Basic Rocky-Road

Ingredients:

750g Cadbury Milk Chocolate
100g Marshmallows roughly chopped
1/2 cup Unsalted Chopped Peanuts
100g Allens Ripe Raspberries (Lollies)
1/4 cup Coconut shredded(optional)

Method:
  • Melt chocolate. My method is a heat proof bowl on a saucepan filled with about 2cm of water. Stir, stir, stir.... (You could always use the microwave option)
  • Once chocolate is all melted sit aside until chocolate feels the same as your body temp.(Don't want to melt all the yummy ingredients)
  • Line a slice tray (16 x 26 x 3 cm) with baking paper, leaving 2 cm hanging over each end.
  • Use scissors to cut marshmallows in half(you could also use mini marshmallows. Combine marshmallows, raspberry lollies, coconut and peanuts in a large bowl. Pour in melted chocolate and mix well to combine.
  • Spoon into prepared tray and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. When set, lift rocky road onto a chopping board and cut into any size pieces.

Note:
I enjoy to play around with the rocky-road recipe. You can swap lollies for cherries, turkish delight, rolo chocolate or even honeycomb. Ive tried them all and they work a treat. Also, I'm not a fan of peanuts, so you can use any nut's you like. I prefer to replace the nuts with about 8-10 Arnotts Milk Coffee Biscuits smash up to crumbs and chunks.

Memories cont...

Anyone got a Time Machine??...

The Pom... One of my best male friends! Miss the days when he was in Australia and we would go out and run a muck! I am so happy for him and his little "Family" (girlfriend and her son). Can't wait to get my arse over there and run a muck on his turf!!

Random Melbourne trips on any night of the week! Pffft... who cared about work, kids, partners?? None of us did back then... PLEASE turn back the clock, just for another night like this!!!!!

Please find me that time machine!! Does anyone know where it is??  The things I would do to have one more magically night at Kryal castle. Just one night. Words can not describe how magically this place is filled with great music, people and lights. No other event has even been close to this one (for me personally).

Last but not least I wish I could go back to simple times, Times I didn't have to worry about ANYTHING serious. Times when I could randomly call a friend and organise a road trip somewhere and be at the destination the same day! But I've got to accept these times have gone and I'm sure we will all have many more just as wonderful ones. I've really enjoyed reminiscing. I hope those of you who remember any of these times have also.

Memories

You know that feeling when you are looking at old photos and you just wish you could go back to that moment? We all do it, but reality is there's no turning back.

If it was possible, these are the moments I'd love to go back and relive:

Thursday nights out with all the girls, Seriously these were some of the best nights I can ever remember.
I'm still in shock when I think of some of the things we got up to!!!

RYE.... Seriously I miss each and everyone of the people in these pictures. Even Emily and Tash who are still in Australia! Yogev, Amir, Kobi, Chicko & Shaun. Serious the best bunch of guys I have ever met! I miss being up the carnival with them. Thank god for facebook, Keeps everyone connected.

The Billy's boy's! I miss them everyday I'm not in Bali, Always feel like I missing so much in their lives. I'm forever getting messages saying they are getting married, having babies etc. Gecko, Ricky & Nick you 3 guys are the BEST!!! Wow still can't believe I've known Gecko for almost 10 years!!! This trip in the photos is one I always wish I could go back to. It was all about fun and friends. Even if my dad did sell me to 3 Balinese! haha
Still on the topic of Bali, I've had some wonderful holidays there. These holidays were spent with my great family, numerous friends & the latest trip was with my boyfriend Pete. Each one I wish I could go back to for different reasons!!
The first time I ever went to Bali was about a year after the Bali bombings. Everyone was worried about us traveling there but I'm so glad we did. It was an amazing eye opener to how other people live. We stayed at Dynasty Resort and met some wonderful people who I still see around the place to this day. Yoji, who was a pool boy there now lives in Australia with his wife and child. Froggy another pool boy is a dad of a few and I've seen him around on previous trips. Also Luke, The first Australian guy we met in Bali, We are still in contact to this day.

This next photo was a trip with Sam, We had a ball, ran a muck and made great friends who I think neither of us will ever forget. Stayed at the Bounty Hotel in Kuta, I was 18 on this trip and Sam got to celebrate her 18th while we were here! Talk about celebrating in style. The hangovers are something I wish I could forget from this time.

This was 100% a trip of a life time. Speaking about hangovers on the previous trip had nothing on this one. I refused to drink alcohol for about 12 months when I returned from this trip. Very hazzy to remember much. Alot of late nights sitting down the beach with Nick and Gecko. Lots of drinking are partying with Jerrie. As well is my brothers getting jumped by a gang at one of the night clubs! Speak about fun, This was one crazy trip I promise you all that much!

To Be Continued....
